Spent from nine till one at the hospital today, getting two unsuccessful non-stress tests, and unexpected ultrasound, and some blood pressure checks. My parents took the kids for the whole day, which was wonderful, because when I got out I just wanted to sleep.

I have the whole rigmarole again on Monday.

My blood pressure is better, which probably means no-housework-two-naps is helping. If the non-stress test on Monday fails to work I'm going to point it out to my o.b. and ask if we can maybe only try once per visit, or skip them if I'm having twice-weekly ultrasounds, or something. It's coming off as a huge waste of time, especially since I've got great fetal movement (they never stop moving. This bodes ill).

The doctors in triage encouraged me to keep resting, but were quite concerned that there might be blood flow problems to the baby lower down, because she's a pound smaller and the ultrasound looks like the cord's supply isn't as good. So we're monitoring. They're currently five pounds three ounces (that would be Elizabeth), and four pounds four ounces (Miriam). It's very, very good that they're near or over the necessary going-home weight- as long as their lung development is good maybe they can come back as soon as I'm released from hospital. God willing.

I was reading Designing Your Classical Curriculum today, and it emphasized the importance of filling your children's heads with beautiful and inspiring stories. Our kids are right now watching Toy Story Two for the second time today, and heaven knows what they were watching with Mum and Dad. We'll work on the beautiful things later- maybe read Robert Loius Stevenson at bedtime?
