It was good, very hectic, party, and the great-grandparents were successfully surprised- they knew Geoff and I were coming, and had been invited to lunch to see us. There were seven kids ten and under, all the great-grandparents' kids, and all their kids minus the one on the other side of the world.
You can't get perpective on it properly, so I want to emphasize the enormity of the cake. It was about eighteen inches across and more than six inches thick. It was impressive. Thomas ate two slices. Well, our Thomas- there were actually four people named Thomas present- the great-grandfather, called Tom, my FiL, who goes by his second name, Geoff's aunt's son who's in his twenties and is called Thomas, and our Thomas. Older Thomas seemed to be experiencing a little disconnect with all the people shrieking, "Thomas! Don't hit the cat! Thomas, sit down! Thomas, we don't eat dirt!" and similar.
