It's been an awful day- I've had to make a lot of phone calls about my parents, I'm recovering from laryngitis, Nat's had crazy high blood sugar that I finally figured out at dinner was probably from his insulin overheating and denaturing. Not a good day. But this evening after all the other kids were in bed Nat and I went out to a stretch of land that's covered with wild mallow, about three blocks from here, and picked half a pound of lamb's quarter and mallow. On the way we stopped at milkweed and looked for monarch larvae, met a friendly cat, talked about plantain (another weed), and ran a short race.
We've come home and washed the greens and Nat is learning to play kid's Scrabble. A good ending to a bad day.
